Upper tract infections (acute pyelonephritis) may result in renal parenchymal scarring and chronic kidney disease. Neonates with UTI should be evaluated for associated systemic infection, and anatomic or functional abnormalities of the kidneys and urinary tract. The aim of our study is to detect the prevalence of urinary tract infection in lethargic neonates.

Patients and methods: Across sectional study was carried out looked for urinary tract infection among sample of lethargic neonates in Al-Zahraa teaching hospital for maternity and children at Al-Najaf city, Iraq at period from first of February to first of November, 2023.

Information was gathered according to data collecting sheet that included: name, age, (gestational and postnatal), sex, mode of delivery and symptoms like lethargy, poor feeding, fever, shortness of breath and apneic attack, etc. Data have been obtained by standard laboratory procedures including GUE and urine culture.

Result: A total of 70 neonates were enrolled in this study, the mean age of sample is (8.6 days), the minimum is 1 day and the maximum is 28 days,45 were males and 25 were females. The percentage of urinary tract infection among lethargic neonates was (57.1%) with a percentage of (64.29%), (35.71%) in males and females respectively. The current study found that age more than 7 days was significantly risk factor for urinary tract infection in addition to urinary tract infection during pregnancy among mothers both are significant risk factor (P value less than 0.05) from other point of view neonates of male gender, poor antenatal care was more likely to have urinary tract infection, however, the correlation with these possible risk factors did not reach the statistical significance (P value more than 0.05).

It could be concluded from this study that UTI is a significant cause for lethargy. Urine culture may be used as an effective procedure to diagnose UTI, but to validate these finding larger studies are required.
2024-07-05T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 https://synstojournals.com/multi/article/view/116The effect of sexual abstinence period on 8-hydroxydesoxyguanosine, nitric oxide and total antioxidant capacity in seminal plasma and semen quality in abnormal semen2024-07-21T13:01:22+00:00Yousra Amar Eedana@gmail.comSahib Yahya Al-Murshidia@gmail.com
Background: This study aimed to evaluate the influence of (2-3), (4-5) days periods of sexual abstinence on semen parameters and on levels of both oxidative stress and antioxidants in seminal plasma of abnormal semen.

Methods: Abnormal semen samples were collected from 47 infertile men and their semen parameters and levels of NO, TAC, 8-OHdG were examined in both periods (2-3) days and (4-5) days.

Results: The results of the current study showed a statistically no significant (p≤0.05) decrease in sperm concentration and normal sperm morphology of a group of (4-5) days compared to the group (2-3) days, and no differences was observed in the curvature of progressive motility, semen volume and pH between the two groups and showed a statistically no significant (p≤0.05) increase in TAC concentration and also a statistically no significant (p≤0.05) decrease in the level of 8-OHdG in the seminal plasma of the abstinence group (4-5) days compared to the abstinence group (2-3) days.

Conclusion: A sexual abstinence periods (2-3) days is appropriate for a patient with abnormal sperm, because an increase in the period of abstinence (4-5) days leads to a decrease in sperm concentration and the percentage of normal sperm morphology, despite the improvement in the level of TAC and 8-OHdG.
2024-07-06T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 https://synstojournals.com/multi/article/view/119The improvement of anna medika madura general hospital patients knowledge after oral cancer awareness socialization2024-08-05T16:06:43+00:00Sisca Meida Watia@gmail.comRetno Pudji Rahayua@gmail.comAstari Puteria@gmail.comTheresia Indah Budhya@gmail.comBambang Sumaryonoa@gmail.comNabila Putri Dinda Adriyania@gmail.comNur Aini Nova Airlanggaa@gmail.com
Cancer is the leading cause of mortality and a significant impediment to extending life expectancy worldwide. Its burden is expanding unbalanced in low and middle-income nations. It ranks 17th most common cancer worldwide related to a number of risk factors and putative causative agents, including tobacco and alcohol use, betel quid chewing, the human papillomavirus, syphilis, candidiasis, nutritional deficiencies, and dental trauma. There were more than 170.000 deaths per year during 2020 caused by cancer. This research was analytic observational taken at RSU Anna Medika Madura, Bangkalan, East Java, Indonesia, in November 2021. Socialization was delivered to a total of 24 people using zoom meeting (indirectly). There were some questions divided into two sections: pre-socialization (pre-test) before the socialization and post-socialization (post-test) after the socialization. There were significant results achieved regarding public comprehension of the consequences of smoking on the incidence of oral cancer after socialization. Peoples’ understanding before socialization is around 45.4% and after receiving counseling is 86.36% with p value = 0.000 using Wilcoxon signed rank test. These data suggest that dentists, especially Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologists, have the potential ability to inspire patients to quit smoking so this chance to improve the community's dental and overall health.
2024-07-08T00:00:00+00:00Copyright (c) 2024 https://synstojournals.com/multi/article/view/121Effect of Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES) in addressing youth unemployment in Taraba state, Nigeria2024-08-18T17:48:41+00:00S S Adia@gmail.comS M Mohammeda@gmail.comB Tubasena@gmail.comU S Mohammeda@gmail.comN Galadimaa@gmail.comN J Gaisaa@gmail.com
The study was conducted on effect of Youth Empowerment Scheme (YES) in addressing youth unemployment in Taraba State Nigeria the specific objectives were to; describe the socioeconomic characteristics of the beneficiaries; determine the extent in which the scheme empower the youth and identify constraints faced by the youth in the course of the scheme in the study area.
